  6. @ Pierre: You are right, I am Rafic, Tarek’s friend. And about the engine, it is stock except for a GruppeM/K&N carbon fiber air intake. The M3’s engine is, in a way, tuned to the max by the M Division while maintaining its reliability. Furthermore, they have the experience to back up their work. They are very professional and “nee2a” in what they do. Mind you, they do charge alot of $$$ and take their time to finish a job.   8. @Rafic …. mm so you only worked on the exterior , never thought of increasing the performance of your car , for example putting a Supercharger on your M3 ?

    And how much weight did you gain out of all these modifications ? i mean how much does your M3 weighs now ? as i know , the carbon fibre is light but strong , so i guess your car should be lighter than the stock M3 right ?

  12. The car weighs less than a stock M3. That’s for sure cause I weighed it once but I can’t remember exactly. And about supercharging the M3…well first of all it would cost a minimum of +9000$. Second, you will lose the soul and spirit of that N/A BMW Motorsport Inline-6 fire breather of an engine. Speed and power aren?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t everything in a car. And I already own a forced induction car, the best in my opinion, the Evo 6 Tommi Makinen Edition. That car is tuned to the bones. I managed a 0-100 in 4.3 seconds. How much horsepower it has? Not sure really cause I never took it for a dyno run. I’m not looking for more power in the M. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s perfect the way it is now, good brakes, good suspension set up, good tires, and a little trick differential which I bought from the M Racing Division in Germany…it increases the acceleration. Only 2 M3s in Lebanon have that differential, Tarek’s M3 and mine.
    What I’m trying to say, power is not always the answer. Look at AMGs for example. Huge numbers! Supercharge everything to 500+ bhp…well ok that’s good. But this would require a heavy and strong drive train, gearbox, chassis which in turn would make the car heavier. Some of you would say that the M5 has 500 bhp. I say yes. But an M5 is N/A. See the thing is, when you supercharge a car, the power does rise surely, but the torque figures rise too much! And alot of torque demands a strong and heavy drive train and chassis: heavier car. Heavier car: bad balance?¢‚Ǩ¬¶drives bad!
    Anyway, that’s what I think. Alot of you are crazy about horsepower figures and 0-100 seconds and boost pressure. I believe there’s more to a car than power. For me the M3 does it. I admit that my Evo is faster than the M, and it drives and handles better too. It is a precision tool. A tour-de-force in car engineering. But all in all it is a different type of beast. Take the Evo on a long drive and you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll start hating it. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s too hard and firm, too bouncy and jumpy on the power delivery. In other words, the Evo is the beast and the M3 is the beauty.

  13. @ RAFIC….u’re TOTALLYY right about what u said..i always used to tell them that the power & speed isn’t the most important things in a car & that a car should be safe & give u the performance u want before the power…it surely should be powerful as the BMW is, & the car i always talked about which will give all this is the AUDI RS series & what i should talk about now is the RS4 which is the best competitor to the M3 & which took over it…but for sure the M3 is more fun to drive but the AUDI is more safe & have more grip & more power…i really prefer AUDI on all others but i love the BMW too….& MERCEDES are garbage…

    btw, at autoform they told us about a tuned STI (i don’t remenbers if it’s urs) and that STI is going to drag race with another STI that got 600 HP (they say that) check the pic of that STI (http://www.exoleb.com/category/subaru/)
    and they told us that those 2 are the fastest in lebanon

  15. The RS4 is an amazing car. I really really like it. But I wouldn’t compare it to the E46 M3 though. I would pit it against the new V8 one. That group test is yet to come though. I believe that the M3 is the bench mark for this category of performance cars. So is the M5.

    @ Pierre…It is VERY IMPORTANT that you don’t listen or take seriously what Jeremy Clarkson says about a car! (“the RS4 which is the best competitor to the M3 & which took over it”). I’ve been watching Top Gear long since anyone ever heard about it. I’m talking almost 10 years ago! Clarkson has always been a biased prick. He can be very funny and sarcastic sometimes. But that’s what he does, his job is to entertain rather than properly inform.
    Tiff Needle on the other hand (used to be lead presenter on Top Gear but now is on Fifth Gear) is someone you can really consider what he says about a car. First, he actually KNOWS how to drive a car, and he used to be a racing/grand prix driver.

    Now, as I was saying, the M cars are bench marks. M Division releases a car, the rest start releasing competitors. The RS4 was Audi’s latest but a Supercharged V8 with around 420 horses against the normal M3? I don’t think that’s fair. Audi’s direct M3 competitor is the S4 with 344 hp. That’s +1 hp over the M3’s 343 and it has a V8!
    And btw, Audi is releasing an Series 5, A4 coupe that is. A5 and S5 and RS5 with 10000000000 bhps and that sort of thing. Saw it somewhere in a magazine. It’s kinda cool.

    Thing is guys, there’s no such thing as the perfect car. There will always be a better car. Or at least, some cars would be perform better in certain areas where other would simply do badly. And it comes down to what you look for in a car and of course how much $$$ you can afford.
    I mean, if you can afford any Ferrari, would you go for Lambo? Or Maserati? Porsche? But there’s that amazing Ford GT! Well what about an Aston Martin? Well the Jaguar XKR is great! a Z06 is a bargain!
    There’s no final answer! You can get them all if you can afford it but you will always have a favourite among them. YOUR favourite. And that only your heart would determine.

    because that car can be tuned like the M3 and got a more sporty look and about the performance it got the number 1 engine in the last 2 yrs and it can be tuned more than the M3 engine( in my opinion)

  17. @ RAFIC…heyy AUDI still got the Beauty that BMW got & what i was talking about isn’t just the power & the engine but the performance u get in an AUDI…i mean u have the ESP, ASR & the 4 WD systems & i don’t base my infos just on JEREMY but on TIFF too…i know that the M3 got the DSC system but remember that AUDIs are more safe on corners & the speed u can afford to go into a corner with an AUDI is surely less than the M3…
    akid the AUDI ain’t got a normal aspiration, it got TWIN TURBOs but as u know AUDI is famous with TURBOs eno it’s the first car to have TURBOs originally added & the first car to have 4 WD…
    & BMW made a big step into not beating the RS4 but to make the new M3 able to catch up the RS4 in a drag race..

  18. @ GEORGES….hey man the 350z can be tuned more than all the german & other cars cuz it’s a japanese car remember! & japanese people have a profession & love to tune up their cars in order to have the best looking cars & the most powerfull cars in the world…i mean they are tuning cars to the 1000 HP & more & more…they are the best in tuning IMO…it’s in their blood, it’s their life…they are the best drivers too… i used to watch the discovery channel & watched them drift on hard roads just like in NFS underground 2…eno el kwe3 li bifotouwoun & el tari2a li bifouto fiya..wwooooooowwwww…i want to be like that…

  20. The japanese cars are much easier to tune than the other cars , and they are also much cheaper to tune than the other cars expecially the Europeen .
    In this case , the Z is cheaper to tune than the M3 , and i guess it has more capabilities , it also has a bigger engine than the e46 M3 .

    Japan is where Drifting started in the first place , in japan the Drifting motorsport was created , they are simply the best in Drifting .

  22. The Z doesn’t have the same performance as the M3 .

    The M3 got More power and a bit more Torque , has a quicker acceleration (0-100km/h) , and has a higher Top speed . Overall , a stock M3 will kick a stock 350Z’s ass …. No offence Zo , i love the Z , but this is the truth.

  23. i don’t have a “Z” but i know that this car perform like an M3 . btw “it performs like” doen’st mean that it got the same specifications i know that the “Z” got around 40HP less than the M3 but u must check the weight , the aerodynamics and the overall performance
    btw the M3 on a drag race it will beat the “Z” (0 to 60 5.2 sec M3 and 5.4 sec 350Z)
    and ya “el khoury” i think that it’s the bilion time that u read that sentence:P ” on top gear then sting drove both cars and they got the same time around a track ,which is designed to perform the overall performance of the cars:D

    @georges….. hehe top gear again , sorry mate but i just don’t judge cars on Top gear’s lap times , btw are you sure that the weather condition when they tested both cars was the same ? because on wet surface the times will change a lot …..
    The M3 is only 40 Kg heavier than the Z , yes i think that the Z is Fat for what it is . It is a 2 seater sportscar , and it weighs 1516 Kg for god’s sake ! that’s heavy IMO for a 2 seater sportscar .

    I still think that the M3 is the better car , you will have more seats in the M3 , you will have more luxury and more comfort , and you will have a BMW M power engine under the bonnet which is definetly one of the best Inline-6 naturally aspired engines in the world , what else do you want ! lo0l ….

    Again , don’t get me wrong , i love the Z and i am even considering to buy it as my first car , of course i’m not only considering the Z , but it is on my list 😛

  27. The new Audi RS4 does NOT have a turbo. It is normally aspirated. The older one was though.

    Audi are not the first company to use turbos in their cars. Actually, it was General Motors that first used a turbocharged engine in a production car. And it is important to mention that BMW used turbochargers in their cars long before Audi did. The BMW 2002 Turbo was introduced back in 1973. They were followed by Porsche with the 911 Turbo. Audi used a turbocharger in their Audi Quatro in the 1980s.

    Now, DSC; ESP; ASR; ASC; etc…or whatever three letters are used actually describe the same thing. And for the record, BMW’s DSC is ESP but named differently. It is actually called DSC+TC (Dynamic Stability Control + Traction Control). These systems are all the same system and are actually developed by BOSH for car makers. They only differ in set up from car maker to car maker and in name as well.
    But Pierre, these systems are driver AIDS. You don’t judge a car’s performance according to what driver AIDS it has. But rather, a true driver’s car would perform well with these systems actually switched OFF.
    And when it comes to the RS4, it is Audi’s aim to compete with the UPCOMING V8-powered BMW M3 and not the current one, as well as the Mercedes-Benz C-Class AMG (currently the C55 AMG and upcoming C63), the Cadillac CTS V-Series, and the upcoming Lexus IS-F.

    Concerning car tuning. It is NOT true that Japanese cars are cheaper to tune than European cars and damn sure are not easier to tune. I mean I would know! Not to brag or anything, my Evo’s tuning cost me more than 15000$ and needs a couple of things still! And it took so much time and effort to get the set-up right. Now, i’m sure no one has heard of Kelleners Sport. He’s the best BMW car tuner in the world. Based in Germany, Kelleners prepares BMWs to compete on the racing level as well as for everyday use. The owner, called Ralph, with whom I spoke almost 2 years ago, told me that we can get the M3’s engine to develop 410 bhp N/A. The cost? 14000 Euros. A supercharger for the M3 from Active Autowerke would cost you between 9000 and 11000$ for a power boost from 475 to a +520 horsepower figure. If you wanna check out an M3 prepared by Kelleners check out this swedish racing team. I know their race driver from a BMW forum. He was the one who recommended Kelleners after I spoke with him on the phone. http://www.schwedenkreuz.se

    As for the 350z. Well I would certainly not pit it against an M3. The M3 is in a totally different league. The Z competes with the likes of Audi TT, BMW Z4, Honda S2000, Porsche Caymen etc…
    And I think Nissan’s claim of a 5.4sec sprint to 100 is too ambitious. I drove a 350z, and I actually raced a 350z against another one. I raced Karim Sidani’s Z against a black Z owned by a Rasamny guy…can’t remember his name. We drag raced 3 times and I beat him 3 times at his own game. I’ve seen Sidani post on this forum before and I think he can back me up on this cause he was sitting next to me in his car.

    What I thought of 350Z after that? Too heavy, too slow, not responsive enough. It felt as it was trying too hard to build up speed and get a good start off the line. And many 350Zs were destroyed by the M on numerous occasions. I eat them for breakfast. And the Evo chops them to pieces.

    And guys, the Top Gear guy is called The Stig not the sting 🙂

  33. @ Zo…Let’s get things straight. There exists 2 main reasons why BMWs, among many others, are very expensive in Lebanon. First of all, the Euro to Dollar exchange rate is very high. Second, the Lebanese cutoms law considers BMW, Benz, Audi, and the like as premium cars. Therefore the custom tax on them is extremly high. Nevertheless, BMWs/Mercs/Audis/ etc.. will always retail at a higher rate than other manufacturers. Why? Quality and grade of materials used in cars differ from car maker to car maker. R&D costs are higher for certain companys. And let us not forget that Nissan is just emerging after some major economic set backs. They need cars that are priced well to attract more sales. And ask yourself this: Ferraris/Lambos/Masers/Porsches cost a fortune: “hahahahaha” as you put it. Let’s go buy Evos FQs (are as fast or could be made as fast for the fraction of the price) and voila!
    You can’t just compare prices of certain cars to other ones that aren’t even in the same category or on the same level:

    Thing is, when you buy a car, you are also getting with it a history, a heritage, a racing pedigree, an image.

    Don’t get me wrong and get all offensive on me, the 350Z is a good car, but not better than an M car. The only car made by Nissan which is worth praise and glory is the Skyline. That is one hell of a car. A tour de force! I would trade in my Evo for it. The R34 that is.

    Now, concerning looks, Mr. Zo, that issue is completelly SUBJECTIVE. You can’t go on saying that the Z is better looking than the M3 and so on and use that as an argument in your or the Z’s deffence:
    “…take a look at the Z and take a look at the M3 which looks better?”
    “…just about the price thing and the looks”
    “w the Z is much more attractive w nice”

    Logical arguments are not your strong points I’m affraid. No offence mate.

    Lets talk facts, how long would the 350Z last winds of the motor history? Not long I believe. The currrent model would be replaced and everyone will forget about it. On the contrary, the Skyline would forever be a piece of automotive history. Names that come to mind are NSX, Supra, Evo 6, M3, M5, Audi Quattro, Lancia Delta, F40, 355, and so many others. And last but not least, the greatest car of all time, the McLaren F1 powered by a BMW V12 engine. That car set the bench mark for so many hypercars which are to this date still compared and pitted against it. And its legend still powers on by the magic of that BMW Motorsport V12 engine 😉

    And the white M3, i think he sold it. Either way, I’m not in Lebanon at the moment. Plus I don’t do races and stuff. I outgrew the boy racer thing a long time ago. But still, I have to admit, one can’t resist a challenge which would be a “product of the moment” while driving around in one of my cars 😉

    akid the skyline is easier but japanese always think about tuning. the chassis of the skyline can support around 800 HP . and their’s some 350z that are highly tuned , like the Xanavi Nissan 350Z GT (Option magazine founder Daijiro Inada used an extensively modified 350Z, dubbed Option Stream Z to compete in the Silver State Classic Challenge.[15] The car is equipped with twin turbo-chargers and is bored to 3.8 L to produce over 800 bhp.)

    I don’t agree with you. The 350Z and the Skyline are not based on the same principle.

    The 350z is a 2 seater roadster, real wheel drive, N/A. Much more like an S2000, Audi TT, Z4 etc..
    The Skyline is a 4 seater coupe, 4wd, turbocharged. To the likes of Evos and Imprezas.

    And nowadays, almost every car out there can be tuned to produce ridiculous horsepower figures. If you have the budget for it, nothing is impossible!
    Furthermore, almost every model has its own “racing” derivative. Even a regular car like the Honda Accord has a racing version that competes in the Touring Car championships.
